Love & The New Midlife Woman

Domestic Abuse

What is Love in an Abusive Relationship?

in Education, Love, Midlife on 12/08/19

According to the Women’s Equality Party, 1.2 million women suffer Domestic Abuse each year in the UK.
In the recent Sally Challen case, the verdict was changed from murder of her husband, to manslaughter. Despite the years of abuse she had suffered at his hands, Sally said how much she regretted the whole incident and that she missed her husband and still loved him.
I have been told by people who work with abused women, and have heard it myself, that they often finish their sad tales with the words ‘…but I still love him.’
That got me thinking ‘What kind of love could this possibly be?’View Post

What do you think of Female Led Relationships?

in Midlife, Sex on 11/07/19

You may or may not have heard this term before. I encountered it while creating my How to Find Love in Middle Life course. I was surprised how often the term Female Led Relationship is Googled,
The meaning of the words speak for themselves but they are easily misinterpreted. The default understanding is of a bullying wife and a hen-pecked husband who does his best to keep out of the way and avoid trouble by agreeing to anything. Also, we often hear the expression ‘She wears the Trousers’, meaning what she says goes!
This modern definition of Female Led Relationship (FLR), as I understand it, is based on discussion and willing consent on both sides.View Post

Midlife …What?

in Love, Midlife on 29/03/19

What is your immediate thought following the word ‘Midlife’?
A friend on Facebook drew my attention to the most likely answer which is ‘crisis’, as in Midlife Crisis.  Probably 9 out of 10 people would give that answer. Yet for the last few years I have been promoting the term Midlife Woman and I didn’t mean that she is in crisis. On the contrary!View Post

Where does the Prince Charming myth come from?

in Midlife on 17/07/18

Recently a midlife woman friend asked me where does the idea come from that a Prince Charming character will come along to take care of and provide for you? In her life of several partnerships, she had to do most of the caring for him and the family, and often do the providing too. Her… View Post

The Changing Face of Love

in Love, Midlife on 17/07/18

Most of love songs and poems claim that their love is undying and will never change.  However, experience and observation tell us that doesn’t usually happen. Many couples who experience that heady romantic love end up living together, but barely tolerating each other’s company. View Post

Are you a midlife woman looking for love?

in Midlife on 11/04/18

If you are a midlife woman looking for love, you may be confused and disappointed at the way most midlife men come across. Unfortunately, it is an occupational hazard for midlife women to find themselves looking for a new love partner. It may be that your long-term partner dies or walks out. Or, perhaps your… View Post

in Midlife on 06/09/17

RIP Jeanne Moreau – Classic New Midlife Woman Last year we heard of the death of Jeanne Moreau. She was, to my mind, one of the best examples of a powerful but feminine midlife woman, both in the roles she played and in her independent minded personal life. You have to be ‘of a certain… View Post

Have You Heard Jean?

Hello

Jean MacdonaldMy name is Jean Macdonald. Have you heard the term Midlife Woman before? It is most definitely not a middle aged woman! The ‘midlife crisis’ changes most relationships and causes a woman to question what her future life will look like. Understandably she fears lack of love and loneliness in later life. To avoid this she can transform into a New Midlife Woman. From this position she can call the shots, control her destiny and obtain the love, companionship and happiness she desires.
